We are thrilled to announce the re-introduction of the Hawaii Foodbank program to Mayor Wright Homes, marking a significant return after a five-year hiatus since 2019. This initiative aims to support our community by providing essential food resources to those in need.

The 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Culture is proud to announce Palama Settlement as a distinguished performance venue on Friday June 7th to Saturday, June 8th, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. This partnership represents a powerful convergence of cultural celebration, community heritage, and artistic expression.
FestPAC is the largest celebration of indigenous Pacific Islanders, bringing together artists, cultural practitioners, scholars, officials, and the public from across the Pacific Islands and beyond. Since its inception in 1972, FestPAC has been hosted by different Pacific Island nations on a rotational basis, once every four years. The festival serves as an important venue for cultural conservation and revitalization, creativity and innovation, and cultural diplomacy for the Pacific community.
Kalihi-pālama is known as one of the places to welcome the first wave of migration of Pacific Islanders who have shaped the vibrant cultural landscape of the islands. Palama Settlement holds a rich history of service, resource, and connection to the Pacific Islander community for many generations. It stands not just as a venue but as a living testament to the resilient spirit and cultural depth of these communities that honor such a rich legacy, while highlighting the ongoing contributions and resilience of Pacific Islanders to the world.
“Throughout the first wave of migration of Pacific Islanders to Hawaiʻi, Palama Settlement has met the multigenerational need of a community as diverse as Kalihi,” stated Sam Aiona, Executive Director of Palama Settlement. “From social work and immigration services in the 1970s, to current cultural youth programs that encourage our youth to learn and be proud of their cultural heritage, we welcome FestPAC to our home. E komo mai!”
“We have many little satellite stages, large stages, and the festival village at the Hawai‘i Convention Center. Palama Settlement, Windward Mall – we’re having venues all over the mokupuni (island) so that we can reach the local communities.” said FestPAC project Manager Jayme Mokulehua. “The thought and the work that is put into every little detail of this festival will be worth it so please come and experience all of these amazing cultures.”

Palama Settlement is grateful for the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors and Rainbow Wahine and their recent volunteering efforts in Palama sports programs. This collaboration, made possible by our dear friends at the Downtown Athletic Club Hawai’i, was created as a way for the collegiate student-athletes to give back and enhance youth sports programs in the underserved community, providing invaluable opportunities for growth and empowerment.
The involvement of University of Hawaiʻi athletes began with the Warriors conducting drills and agility training during last week’s flag football practice. Quick feet and agility workouts in rapid succession was a healthy challenge for the young Palama Scorpions to experience working with collegiate athletes. The UH student-athletes shared lessons beyond the gridiron as they served as positive role models and advocates for success both on and off the field.
The UH Wahine worked through the fundamentals of proper setting and serving techniques with the Palama Volleyball team. Parents sat back with smiles of pride and gratitude, watching the exchange of knowledge!
Palama Settlement’s Summer Enrichment Program provides a variety of fun and educational activities during the summer break for children who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Children participate in recreational, cultural, and educational programming. Each week focuses on a different theme. Daily hot lunches are provided at no additional cost.
Palama Settlement will be closed in observance of Good Friday. Operations will resume on Monday, April 1st 2024.
In Observance of the state holiday observed in Hawaiʻi on March 26th, Palama Settlement will be closed for operation on Tuesday, March 26 2024.
“A Palama Christmas”
Palama Settlement’s Annual Holiday event will be the biggest and brightest it’s ever been! “A Palama Christmas” event is scheduled from 4:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Dec. 15 with live entertainment, lawn games, free refreshments, photos with Santa and Tutu Mele.The evening will feature new fun festivities such as lawn games, a “Christmas Village” outdoor photo opportunity, local food vendors, and a raffle entry to win a roundtrip for two on Alaska Airlines!
The evening will be filled with entertainment by Ke‘elikōlani Middle School Band, Palama Seniors and Pasefika club, Lion Dance Association of Hawai‘i, and Nesian N.I.N.E. will cap off the holiday event.

Watercolorist and instructor Dawn Yoshimura is preparing her students of the Palama Settlement Kupuna Art Program for the debut of their MOXIE Art Exhibition at Hawaiʻi Pacific University, Kāneʻohe campus. The MOXIE Exhibition will run from Sunday, November 19 to Friday, December 29, at the Hawaiʻi Pacific University Art Gallery, open during the business hours of 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.
MOXIE, the ability to face difficulty with spirit and courage, is a trait that best defines, and exists within each of our senior program participants. Throughout the pandemic, the students in the Kūpuna Art Program here at Palama Settlement kept busy and tried to stay connected, navigating through the unfamiliarity of virtual learning, which were both challenging and foreign to our seniors. This art exhibition tells their stories and how they have navigated through the unprecedented times with moxie.
