Who can volunteer at Palama Settlement?
We welcome everyone who believes in our mission! You can volunteer as an individual looking to lend a hand and meet new people, or as part of a group seeking a shared experience. We’ve partnered with corporations, schools, faith groups, families, students, and everyone in between.
Is volunteering guaranteed once I sign up?
Volunteer opportunities are offered at the discretion of Palama Settlement. Both volunteers and the organization reserve the right to end a volunteer arrangement at any time.
Is a background check required?
Yes, if you are 18 years or older and volunteering for more than two days or working directly with program participants. Background checks are valid for three years, and certain charges (such as felony convictions, child abuse, or theft) may disqualify you.
When can I volunteer?
Once your background check is cleared, you’ll be assigned a supervisor who will guide you, help with scheduling, and answer any questions.
Can students or people completing community service volunteer?
Absolutely! We welcome volunteers completing community service hours, school projects, internships, diversion programs, or corporate volunteer initiatives. A written agreement from the referring school or organization is required.
What is the dress code?
Please dress appropriately for your assigned tasks and avoid clothing with offensive language or graphics.
Who supervises volunteers?
Every volunteer has a designated supervisor who provides guidance, daily support, and ongoing communication.
